Mount Rinjani is an active volcano located on the Indonesian island of Lombok, in West Nusa Tenggara province. It is the second highest volcano in Indonesia, standing at an impressive height of 3,726 meters (12,224 feet) above sea level. Mount Rinjani is a part of the Ring of Fire, a region in the Pacific Ocean characterized by frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity.
The mountain is well-known for its stunning natural beauty and is a popular destination for trekkers and adventurers. The Rinjani Trek is a multi-day hiking expedition that takes visitors through lush forests, open grasslands, and rocky terrains. The trek also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including the caldera, a large volcanic crater containing a beautiful lake called Segara Anak.
One of the most iconic features of Mount Rinjani is the volcanic cone at the center of the caldera, known as Gunung Baru Jari. This cone formed after a series of eruptions, with the most recent significant eruption occurring in 2016. The volcano and its surroundings are ecologically important, as they are part of the Mount Rinjani National Park, which is home to a variety of flora and fauna.
Due to its popularity, the local authorities and guides place an emphasis on responsible tourism to minimize the environmental impact of visitors. Trekkers are usually required to hire local guides and obtain permits to trek to the summit or explore the caldera area.
